New Year’s Resolutions 2017

Will you look at that? The calendar says it’s January 1st. Holy Cow. I give up trying to write “time flies” in any new and innovative way, as I say something similar every year in this blog post! But, it did fly by, again, and it was a great year!

It’s kind of funny re-reading previous years’ posts. Last year was all about “maybe I’ll finish my basement reno this year”. It’s still not 100%… lol.

Does Dynamics 365 mean the death of Dynamics GP?

No! A thousand times no!

I hate click-bait headlines, but based on the confusing messaging out there, it seems you have to have one for people to pay attention. If you don’t know who to believe, you may be scared away from buying or continuing to use Dynamics GP. The messaging has been at times exceptionally clear, and at other times, exceptionally fuzzy, and often both from Microsoft!  There are rumours being spread by god-knows-who that GP 2016 is the last release that will be available for Dynamics GP.

Tales of shopping for a new car

So, I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting a new car for a while now. I was (past tense, as I picked up my new car tonight) leasing a Subaru Outback for the past 3 years. The lease was coming up to an end in July, however I was already 20,000 kms over my lease mileage. Oops. I do love a road trip, apparently too much so to be continuing to lease cars!

I love cars. I’m not an enthusiast in the sense that I keep my cars immaculate and wax them to a shine every weekend… no, I’m not that kind of car lover. I just love new shiny things, and I get bored easily so I tend to flip cars a lot more often than conventional wisdom would say is smart. Oh well. My Subaru was my 10th car, and since I’ve been driving for 31 years, that averages out to a car every 3 years. Yes, that is probably about right, even though I didn’t actually have my own car when I was a new driver.

New Year’s Resolutions 2016

I’ve heard that as you get older, time seems to fly by more quickly. I’ve certainly found that to be true recently, as 2015 seems to have vanished quite quickly. I’m writing this while sitting on my sofa, with a bowl of fruit and a cup of tea, my Christmas tree still lit up, reflecting on the past year and easing into my day. Before I get too comfy or distracted, here’s my annual post on my resolutions for the new year and how I fared in my resolutions for last year!

Diary of a day in jury duty

A few months ago, I received a questionnaire about the possibility of the summoned for jury duty. Yikes, was my first reaction! I filled it out, indicated I was self-employed and mailed it off, hoping that was the end of it.

Then I received a summons to actually appear in court (in Ontario) the day after Thanksgiving, which was today. I’ll be completely up front and say I’ve been trying to figure out how to get out of it, ever since I got the summons. I have no issue with doing your civic duty, but I’ve yet to find a client who will pay me while I do that! Such is the nature of being self-employed, no work = no pay.

Here’s the lowdown of how my day fared:

reImagine 2015 – wrap-up

Today, as I sit in the airport in Fargo awaiting my departing flight, I’m writing this wrap-up on the week with some random thoughts and things I forgot to include earlier. These are in no particular order.

reImagine 2015 – Day 3

Today was a half-day for the official part of the conference, unless you were taking part in post-conference training offerings. I chose to sign up for post-conference training, as I always take advantage of something interesting if I can while I am here. I figure this week is an investment in my self development and it’s worth taking advantage of any face-to-face training I can take that will help me be better at what I do.

reImagine 2015 – Day 2

Day 2 was not quite as crazy as Day 1 for me, at least I don’t feel as drained as I did yesterday at this time of day (4:00pm as I am writing this!). I can’t speak for everyone though, I’m sure if you attended the eOne Smartner Party, your opinion on today might differ due to alcohol consumed or lack of sleep!

reImagine 2015 – Day 1

It’s been a great start to day one so far (as I am writing this throughout the day to save trying to remember it all later!).  This isn’t going to be about everything that happened today, however it’s the things that were most interesting to me.

reImagine 2015 – Arrival Day

Today started early but it was a lot better than my alternatives would have been! This year flying is easier since I’m leaving from the airport closest to me, in Kitchener, Ontario, and it is less than 30 mins away. So a 6:45am flight doesn’t seem too bad after all!
